Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Higher Late Afternoon

03:58 PM EDT, 06/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were advancing late Friday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) up 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) climbing 1.3%.

In corporate news, Amazon.com ( AMZN ) shares rose 2.8%. The company has vowed to "enhance" its systems to tackle fake reviews on its online marketplace, the UK Competition and Markets Authority said. Separately, the e-commerce giant confirmed to MT Newswires Friday that it eliminated nearly 100 positions in its books division, including at its Goodreads review site and Kindle units.

Manchester United ( MANU ) shares surged past 18% after the British soccer club said it expects to hit the top end of its tightened full-year revenue guidance as its fiscal Q3 sales grew year over year.

Petco Health & Wellness (WOOF) shares tumbled 23%. The company reported fiscal Q1 net loss and sales late Thursday that missed market expectations.

Lululemon Athletica ( LULU ) shares dropped 19% as the athletic apparel and footwear company slashed its full-year earnings outlook despite reporting better-than-expected fiscal Q1 results.
