01:56 PM EDT, 03/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks advanced Monday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) each adding about 0.6%.

In corporate news, General Motors ( GM ) will operate its Flint Assembly plant in Michigan, six days a week starting in June, boosting production of heavy-duty pickups as demand remains strong, The Wall Street Journal reported. GM added 0.2%.

Alaska Air ( ALK ) expects to report a bigger Q1 loss than previously estimated amid higher fuel costs and travel demand disruptions in Mexico and Hawaii. Its shares fell 6%.

Sysco ( SYY ) on Monday agreed to acquire Jetro Restaurant Depot in a cash-and-stock deal with an enterprise value of about $29.1 billion, as the food distributor looks to expand into the cash and carry wholesale channel. Sysco ( SYY ) was down past 14%.
