Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Lower in Late Afternoon Trading

03:45 PM EDT, 03/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks fell late Friday afternoon with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) declining less than 0.1% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) dropping 0.9%.

In corporate news, WW International ( WW ) shares jumped past 18%, a day after the company said it's on track to beat Q1 guidance for end-of-period clinical subscribers.

Laird Superfood ( LSF ) shares soared 25% after the company said it expects its gross margin to improve this year and beyond.

McDonald's (MCD) temporarily closed some restaurants Friday following a tech outage that impacted its app and hindered customers' ability to place orders in certain regions. The fast food giant's shares were falling 1%.

JD.com ( JD ) shares gained 1.8% after it said Friday it was ending its pursuit of UK electronics retailer Curry's.
