Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed in Late Afternoon Trading

03:49 PM EDT, 10/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed late Thursday afternoon with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) shedding 0.1% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) jumping 3.2%.

In corporate news, Yum! Brands ( YUM ) shares declined 0.7% after the company's Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC ( YUM ) divisions started removing fresh onions at some of their stores as a precautionary measure following an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's (MCD) restaurants, Bloomberg reported.

Kraft Heinz ( KHC ) is looking to sell its Oscar Mayer brand, a move that could bring in nearly $3 billion, Reuters reported. Kraft Heinz ( KHC ) shares were falling 1.4%.

Keurig Dr Pepper ( KDP ) said Thursday it has agreed to buy Ghost, a lifestyle sports nutrition business, starting with a 60% stake for $990 million. Keurig Dr Pepper ( KDP ) shares dropped 4.9%.

Tesla (TSLA) shares surged 22%, a day after the company posted a surprise gain in Q3 earnings and issued a bullish outlook on 2025 volume growth.
