Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed Late Afternoon

03:49 PM EDT, 10/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed late Friday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.2% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) shedding 0.6%.

In corporate news, Walmart ( WMT )-(WMT) backed financial technology firm OnePay will offer customers access to cryptocurrencies bitcoin and ether later in the year, CNBC reported. Walmart ( WMT ) shares rose 0.6%.

Rivian Automotive ( RIVN ) is planning to redesign its electric vehicle doors to address potential safety issues raised by employees and customers, Bloomberg reported. Rivian shares were up 0.6%.

Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) is expected to announce a deal to buy conservative-leaning journalist Bari Weiss' The Free Press newsletter and name her as editor-in-chief of CBS News as early as Monday, The New York Times reported Friday. Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) shares rose 1.9%.

Some Tesla (TSLA) shareholders on Thursday called on the electric vehicle maker's investors to vote against Chief Executive Elon Musk's proposed $1 trillion pay package at next month's meeting, citing the company's declining performance, among other things. Tesla shares declined 1.9%.
