Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed Late Afternoon

03:53 PM EDT, 04/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed late Wednesday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) decreasing 0.4% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) rising 0.8%.

In corporate news, Stellantis ( STLA ) is in talks about building electric vehicles in Canada alongside Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology, which is its Chinese partner, Bloomberg reported. Stellantis ( STLA ) shares jumped past 4%.

Nike ( NKE ) shares tumbled 15% after the sportswear giant forecast revenue to decline in its fiscal Q4 year over year amid persistent weakness in the key China region, even though the company's sales unexpectedly increased annually in the previous three-month period.

Lamb Weston ( LW ) shares fell more than 9% after the company reported fiscal Q3 adjusted earnings of $0.72 per diluted share, down from $1.15 a year earlier.

Cal-Maine Foods ( CALM ) fiscal Q3 results fell year over year amid lower egg prices, although the company expects earnings to stabilize in the long term. Its shares rose 5%.
