In corporate news, Marriott International ( MAR ) reported Q2 revenue below Wall Street's estimates amid headwinds from the Middle East conflict, while the company provided a downbeat Q3 earnings outlook. The shares fell 6.5%.

Imax ( IMAX ) shares gained 6.1% after the company generated $257 million at the global box office in July, up 47% from its previous monthly record, driven by Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey."

Cinemark (CNK) recorded its biggest-ever domestic weekend box office, driven by "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "The Odyssey." The stock rose 4.1%.

Coursera ( COUR ) shares jumped past 11% after Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock to neutral from sell and raised its price target to $6.50 from $5.50.
