In corporate news, American Eagle Outfitters ( AEO ) shares surged 33% after the clothing retailer's fiscal Q2 earnings unexpectedly increased year over year, while revenue topped market estimates amid higher demand and expense management.
Gap (GAP) said Thursday it is expanding its business to incorporate beauty products and accessories. The company will launch a test at 150 of its Old Navy stores with several beauty and personal care products, it said. Gap shares jumped 4.8%.
General Motors ( GM ) is cutting production at its electric vehicle factories as the carmaker adjusts to slowdown in the EV market and upcoming expiry of federal EV tax credits. GM shares were fractionally lower.
