03:21 PM EST, 11/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were higher late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) each rising 0.4%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index climbed 1.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index was adding 1.2%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.9% to $72.12 a barrel while the global benchmark Brent crude contract was up 0.8% at $75.64 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures fell 3.8% to $2.68 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Chevron ( CVX ) said Tuesday it's shutting in production at the Gulf of Mexico facilities it operates in preparation for Tropical Storm Rafael. Its shares were shedding 0.7%.
