08:58 AM EST, 11/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were leaning lower premarket Friday with the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.3% recently.
The United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.2% lower.
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was 1.8% lower at $71.03 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil lost 1.6% to $74.46 per barrel and natural gas futures were up 0.2% at $2.70 per 1 million British Thermal Units.
Icahn Enterprises ( IEP ) said it has sent a proposal to CVR Energy's ( CVI ) board to acquire additional shares of the petroleum refining company in a tender offer. CVR Energy ( CVI ) shares were up over 6%, while Icahn Enterprises ( IEP ) shares fell past 8% pre-bell.
