01:18 PM EST, 11/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index decreasing 0.5% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.4%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index dropped 2.1%, while the Dow Jones US Utilities index was rising 1%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil was declining 0.9% to $68.29 a barrel while the global benchmark Brent crude contract was down 1% to $72.32 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures were 0.5% lower at $3.35 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Peabody Energy ( BTU ) said in a Monday filing that it entered an agreement for a bridge loan facility with multiple lenders to provide up to $2.08 billion to partly finance its acquisition of Anglo American's coal assets in Australia. Peabody shares tumbled 4.8%.
