03:21 PM EST, 12/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks rose late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index adding 0.6% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) up 0.3%.

The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index climbed 1.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index shed 1.3%.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 1.6% to $68.29 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent advanced 1.4% to $72.08 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures gained 3.4% to $3.18 per 1 million BTU.

In corporate news, New Fortress Energy ( NFE ) shares jumped 5.4%. The company completed the private exchange of $1.5 billion of new senior secured notes for more than two-thirds of its outstanding senior secured notes due 2026 and 2029.
