01:23 PM EST, 01/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) each decreasing 0.8%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was up 0.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index was rising 0.8%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil was declining 0.2% to $74.44 a barrel while the global benchmark Brent crude contract was easing 0.1% to $78.25 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures were up 0.2% at $3.95 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, NextEra Energy's (NEE) shares popped 4.3%. The company reported Q4 adjusted earnings Friday of $0.53 per share, up from $0.52 a year earlier.
