03:20 PM EST, 01/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index falling 1% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.9%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index declined 1.5%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index shed 1.6%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.9% to $73.80 a barrel while the global benchmark Brent crude contract advanced 0.5% to $77.49 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures dropped 6.8% to $3.45 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, TotalEnergies (TTE) signed a 15-year contract to supply an overall volume of 1.5 TWh of renewable electricity to STMicroelectronics (STM) sites in France. TotalEnergies shares were down 1.1%.
