03:26 PM EDT, 05/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index down 0.5% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) decreasing 0.8%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was shedding 0.7%, while the Dow Jones US Utilities index added 0.3%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.3% to $62.32 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract added 0.2% to $65.65 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures jumped 9.1% to $3.39 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Chevron ( CVX ) is looking to explore and develop oil and gas opportunities in Indonesia that have large reserves, Reuters reported, citing Djoko Siswanto, who is chairman of the country's upstream regulator SKK Migas. Chevron ( CVX ) shares were down 1%.
