03:34 PM EDT, 06/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks gained late Friday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 1.6% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) climbing 2%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index advanced 2%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index was up 0.4%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 2.2% to $64.73 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent advanced 1.9% to $66.58 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures gained 2.9% to $3.78 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Sunnova Energy ( NOVA ) shares popped 5.5%. The company said in a Thursday regulatory filing that it plans to reduce its workforce by about 55%, or 718 employees, in a move to cut operating expenses.
