01:18 PM EDT, 08/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index down 0.1% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) shedding 0.3%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was up 0.2%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index climbed 1.4%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 1.6% to $66.26 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract dropped 1.3% to $68.79 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures were 5.8% lower at $2.91 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Kosmos Energy ( KOS ) reported a wider-than-expected Q2 loss on Monday amid lower-than-projected oil output, prompting the company to curb its production outlook for the year. Its shares fell 1.8% recently.
