01:24 PM EDT, 08/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index easing 0.2% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) decreasing 0.6%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was climbing 2.3%, while the Dow Jones US Utilities index was shedding 0.7%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil was declining 1.6% to $65.20 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract was dropping 1.6% to $67.68 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures were 3.7% higher at $3.04 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) agreed to terms with the government of Trinidad and Tobago for exploration rights in an ultra-deepwater area off the country's east coast, Reuters reported. Exxon shares were down 0.1%.
