01:44 PM EDT, 10/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks rose Wednesday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index climbing 0.6% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) gained 0.4%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index advanced 1.5%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index gained 0.2%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 2.4% to $58.59 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent advanced 2.2% to $62.64 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures fell 0.6% to $3.45 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Shell (SHEL) is appealing a court ruling by the Western Cape High Court that rescinded an environmental permit for an oil exploration block off the west coast of South Africa, Bloomberg reported. Shell shares rose 1.6%.
