01:13 PM EDT, 10/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index down 0.4% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) shedding 0.7%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was adding 0.4%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index climbed 1.4%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.4% to $62.02 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract advanced 0.7% to $66.42 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures fell 3.4% to $3.23 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, ConocoPhillips ( COP ) shares were down 1.6% after Reuters reported Thursday that the company is set to lay off workers in Canada in November as part of its efforts to reduce its global workforce by up to a quarter by 2026.
