03:33 PM EDT, 10/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index easing 0.4% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 1%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was decreasing 0.6%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index fell 1.6%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 2.1% to $60.00 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract dropped 2.1% to $64.26 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures slumped 3.8% to $3.85 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, NextEra Energy ( NEE ) placed a major equipment order, including cooling towers and a power generator, for the restart of its Duane Arnold nuclear power plant in Iowa, Reuters reported, citing Chief Executive John Ketchum. NextEra shares were down 3%.
