03:37 PM EST, 12/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks rose late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index adding 0.6% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) up 0.3%.

The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index climbed 1.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index shed 1.3%.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 1.6% to $68.29 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude advanced 1.4% to $72.08 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures gained 3.4% to $3.18 per 1 million BTU.

In corporate news, New Fortress Energy ( NFE ) shares jumped 5.4%. The company completed the private exchange of $1.5 billion of new senior secured notes for more than two-thirds of its outstanding senior secured notes due 2026 and 2029.

California Resources ( CRC ) 's Carbon TerraVault unit will develop Net Power's ( NPWR ) ultra-low emission power plants in California under a memorandum of understanding. California Resources ( CRC ) shares popped nearly 6%, and Net Power ( NPWR ) was fractionally lower.

Enphase Energy ( ENPH ) shares surged 7.4% after the company said owners of Enphase IQ batteries will be able to participate in NextEnergy's tariff program in the Netherlands under a new collaboration between the companies.

SJW (SJW) said Monday it appointed Douwe Busschops as chief information officer. Busschops was previously chief information officer for the municipal water division at Veolia North America, the company said. SJW shares added 0.2%.
