01:40 PM EST, 01/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) each decreasing 0.9%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was fractionally up, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index was rising 0.9%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil was declining 0.3% to $74.40 a barrel while the global benchmark Brent crude contract was easing 0.1% to $78.25 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures were up 0.2% at $3.95 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, NextEra Energy's (NEE) shares popped 4.5%. The company reported Q4 adjusted earnings Friday of $0.53 per share, up from $0.52 a year earlier.
Shell (SHEL) said Friday its Shell Energy North America unit completed the acquisition of RISEC, owner of a 609-megawatt two-unit combined-cycle gas turbine power plant in Rhode Island. Shell shares were down 1.9%.
EON Resources ( EONR ) filed a preliminary prospectus Friday for the sale of up to about 5.08 million of its class A shares from security holders from time to time. Its shares fell 3.4%.
