01:50 PM EDT, 06/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks fell Tuesday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index declining 0.8% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) decreasing 0.5%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was little changed, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index shed 0.7%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.5% to $78.16 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude advanced 0.6% to $82.12 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures jumped 5.1% to $3.056 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Obsidian Energy ( OBE ) shares gained 2.5% after the company reached an agreement in principle with the Woodland Cree First Nation, and production restarted from the Harmon Valley South field in the Peace River area.
NextEra Energy (NEE) continues to expect 2024 adjusted earnings of $3.23 to $3.43 a share. Analysts polled by Capital IQ expect $3.41. The stock tumbled 6.1%.
Vista Energy (VIST) has a deal with Schlumberger ( SLB ) to acquire a new fracking array in H2 to increase production in the Vaca Muerta shale region, Bloomberg reported. Vista shares fell 2.2%, and Schlumberger ( SLB ) eased 0.2%.
