Sector Update: Energy Stocks Gain in Monday Afternoon Trading

01:45 PM EDT, 06/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks gained Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 2.1% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) up 2.4%.

The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index jumped 3%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index added 1.3%.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 1.1% to $81.65 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude advanced 1% to $86.07 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures gained 2.6% to $2.78 per 1 million BTU.

In corporate news, Altus Power ( AMPS ) shares fell 7.4%. The company acquired an 8.5-megawatt solar array in New Jersey.

Eni (E) expects to complete the sale of a minority stake in its biofuel unit Enilive by the end of 2024, Reuters reported. Eni shares shed 0.3%.

NexGen Energy ( NXE ) said the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission completed a 30-day review of its latest submission regarding the environmental impact statement for the company's planned Rook One uranium mining project. NexGen Energy ( NXE ) shares fell 2.3%.
