Sector Update: Energy Stocks Higher in Late Afternoon Trading

03:42 PM EDT, 06/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks gained late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 1.2% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) up 0.9%.

The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index jumped 3.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index added 0.4%.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil climbed 3.1% to $77.89 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude gained 2.7% to $81.78 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures rose 0.5% to $2.933 per 1 million BTU.

In corporate news, Drilling Tools International ( DTI ) shares advanced 2.7% after the company said it expects to be added to the Russell 2000, Russell 2500, Russell 3000, Russell Small Cap Completeness Index and Russell Microcap Index.

Oceaneering International ( OII ) shares rose 3.6% after the company said its manufactured products division won two contracts with Petrobras (PBR) in a competitive bidding process with aggregate net revenue expected to be $120 million to $183 million.

Ameren ( AEE ) shares rose 0.3% after the Ameren Missouri unit filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission to build an 800-megawatt simple-cycle natural gas energy center that will serve as a backup energy source.

Noble (NE) agreed to buy Diamond Offshore Drilling ( DO ) in a stock-and-cash deal with an implied value of $15.52 a share. Diamond shares surged 10%, and Noble rose 5.5%.
