Sector Update: Energy Stocks Lean Lower Pre-Bell Tuesday

09:31 AM EDT, 07/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were leaning lower pre-bell Tuesday as the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was down 0.2% recently.

The United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was down 0.3% and the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 1.3% lower.

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was 0.3% lower at $67.70 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil lost 0.2% to $69.46 per barrel. Natural gas futures were 0.9% lower at $3.404 per 1 million British Thermal Units.

Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) shares were down 0.3% after the company said in a regulatory filing that it expects oil price changes to lower its Q2 upstream earnings by a range of $800 million to $1.2 billion.

Crescent Energy ( CRGY ) shares were up nearly 1% after the company reported early results of its cash tender offer to buy up to $500 million in outstanding 9.25% senior notes due 2028 of its unit, Crescent Energy Finance.

BP (BP) and Shell (SHEL) signed separate agreements with Libya's National Oil Corp., or NOC, to explore hydrocarbon prospects, NOC said. BP shares were 0.6% higher and shares of Shell were up 0.3% premarket.
