03:44 PM EDT, 09/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks gained late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index up 1.7% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) adding 1.9%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index climbed 3.5%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index rose 0.4%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 2% to $63.53 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent advanced 1.7% to $67.73 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures climbed 1.8% to $2.86 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, LandBridge ( LB ) shares jumped past 10% after it said Tuesday it signed a strategic agreement with NRG Energy ( NRG ) for a potential data center site in Reeves County, Texas, within the Delaware Basin. NRG Energy ( NRG ) shares were down 2.2%.
Sempra ( SRE ) agreed to sell a 45% stake in its energy infrastructure platform to affiliates of investment firm KKR (KKR) and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board for $10 billion in cash. Sempra ( SRE ) shares rose 4.4%.
Constellation Energy ( CEG ) said Tuesday that one year after restarting the Three Mile Island Unit 1 plant, now renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center, the project has progressed ahead of schedule. The company said the restart, backed by a 20-year power deal with Microsoft (MSFT), is set for 2027 and will add carbon-free baseload energy while restoring jobs and grid stability. Constellation shares fell 2.9%.
Lithium Americas ( LAC ) shares fell 8% after Bloomberg reported that the company's $2.3 billion loan to develop the Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada is under review by the Trump administration.
