01:35 PM EST, 12/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were advancing in Thursday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) each adding 0.5%.
The Philadelphia Housing Index was shedding 0.8%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was down 0.4%.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was gaining 5.4% to $101,043, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries rose one basis point to 4.19%.
In economic news, US initial jobless claims rose to 224,000 in the week ended Nov. 30 from an upwardly revised 215,000 in the previous week, compared with expectations for 215,000 in a survey of analysts compiled by Bloomberg.
In corporate news, Fiserv ( FI ) said Thursday its Chairman, President and Chief Executive Frank Bisignano has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump as the commissioner of the Social Security Administration. Fiserv ( FI ) shares tumbled 5.4%.
