01:28 PM EST, 01/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were advancing in Wednesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index up 0.2% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) up 0.3%.
The Philadelphia Housing Index was falling 1%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was down 0.5%.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was 0.6% lower at $102,293, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was little changed at around 4.55%.
In economic news, the US Federal Reserve will announce its rate decision Wednesday afternoon. According to the FedWatch Tool, the central bank will almost certainly leave its target rate unchanged at 4.25% to 4.5%. Powell will hold a press conference at 2:30 pm.
In corporate news, D.E. Shaw has bought a stake in Riot Platforms ( RIOT ) and may push the bitcoin miner to implement changes, Reuters reported. Riot shares were down 0.5%.
