01:53 PM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were rising in Tuesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) each adding about 0.4%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was falling 1.3%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was up 0.4%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was 2.4% lower at $64,479, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was down 5.6 basis points to 4.22%.

In economic news, US retail sales rose 0.1% in May versus the 0.3% increase anticipated in a survey compiled by Bloomberg and a 0.2% decline in April.

US industrial production advanced 0.9% in May, compared with expectations for a 0.3% increase in a survey compiled by Bloomberg and an unrevised flat reading in April.

Redbook US same-store sales rose 5.9% from a year earlier in the week ended June 15 after a 5.5% year-over-year increase in the previous week.

In corporate news, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is expected to downgrade its rating for Citigroup's ( C ) data-management system to a "deficiency" from a "shortcoming," The Wall Street Journal reported. Citigroup ( C ) shares were rising 1%.

Blackstone (BX) made an over 275 billion yen ($1.74 billion) bid to buy Japanese digital comic provider Infocom, multiple media outlets reported. Separately, Blackstone Real Estate and MRP Group said a Mexican trust formed by their affiliates has raised the price of its tender offer for up to 100% of Terrafina's real estate trust certificates by 1 Mexican peso ($0.05) to 39.50 pesos per certificate. Blackstone shares added 0.6%.

HSBC's ( HSBC ) Swiss unit HSBC Private Bank failed to prevent money laundering in connection with two "politically exposed" persons and "seriously violated" financial market law, Swiss financial regulator Finma said. HSBC ( HSBC ) shares were rising 0.2%.
