Sector Update: Financial Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

03:54 PM EDT, 07/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks rose late Tuesday afternoon trading with the NYSE Financial Index up 0.9% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) adding 1%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index fell 0.3%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) gained 0.3%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) declined 2% to $61,844, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries dropped about 5 basis points to 4.43%.

In economic news, US job openings rose to 8.14 million in May from a revised 7.92 million in April and above the 7.95 million expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg.

In corporate news, Beneficient (BENF) said the US Securities and Exchange Commission is no longer investigating the company and Chief Executive Brad Heppner. Its shares popped 2.4%.

Principal Financial ( PFG ) shares rose 1.8% after JP Morgan upgraded it to neutral from underweight and raised its price target to $96 from $88.

Robinhood (HOOD) said Tuesday it has no "imminent plans" to launch cryptocurrency futures offerings. Bloomberg reported earlier in the day that the company was exploring launching crypto futures in the US and Europe in the coming months. Robinhood shares were retreating 1.7%.

R1 RCM ( RCM ) shares tumbled nearly 15% after New Mountain Capital said it's no longer interested in pursuing a joint acquisition of R1 with TCP-ASC and lowered its proposed takeover offer.
