Sector Update: Financial Stocks Rise Late Afternoon

03:39 PM EST, 01/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were advancing in late Tuesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index rising 1.1% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) adding 0.7%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index eased 0.1%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was climbing 1.8%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) popped 4.8% to $106,835, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was dropping 4 basis points to 4.57%.

In regulatory news, President Donald Trump has designated Mark Uyeda as acting chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the agency said Tuesday.

In corporate news, Forestar ( FOR ) shares declined over 10% after it reported fiscal Q1 earnings of $0.32 per diluted share, down from $0.76 a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $0.63.

Charles Schwab ( SCHW ) reported better-than-expected Q4 results on Tuesday amid growth in fees and trading revenue while predicting a top-line acceleration in 2025. Its shares rose 5.7%.

Prologis' ( PLD ) core funds from operations surpassed market expectations for Q4, while the company guided for growth in the key metric during 2025. Shares jumped 7.4%.

Goldman Sachs ( GS ) has released a program called GS AI assistant to about 10,000 employees and plans to roll out the generative AI assistant to all its knowledge workers in 2025, CNBC reported Tuesday, citing Goldman Sachs ( GS ) Chief Information Officer Marco Argenti. Goldman shares were up 1%.
