Sector Update: Financial Stocks Rise Late Afternoon

03:42 PM EDT, 06/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks advanced late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Financial Index and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) both climbing 1.1%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index rose 0.3%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) eased 0.1%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) increased 2.9% to $108,690, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries rose 2.8 basis points to 4.452%.

Iran indicated it's urgently looking to end hostilities with Israel and resume nuclear talks, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing Middle Eastern and European officials.

In economic news, New York manufacturing contraction worsened in June amid weakness in new orders and shipments, though firms turned positive regarding the outlook of business conditions, a survey by the New York Fed showed.

In corporate news, Cohen & Steers ( CNS ) invested $300 million in Hudson Pacific Properties ( HPP ) . Hudson shares gained 3.5% and Cohen eased 0.2%

KKR (KKR) and T-Mobile US' (TMUS) acquisition of a joint control of US Internet, Ridgeview and JKT was approved under the EU's merger regulations, the European Commission said. KKR shares added 1.6%.

Carlyle (CG), Triton and other private equity firms are considering bids for REMA Tip Top, a German industrial equipment maker that is exploring a possible sale, Reuters reported. Carlyle shares rose 1.4%.

American Express ( AXP ) will open Centurion Lounges at airports in Newark, Salt Lake City and Tokyo over the next year. American Express ( AXP ) shares climbed 2.3%.
