Sector Update: Financial Stocks Rise Monday Afternoon

01:52 PM EDT, 06/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks advanced in Monday afternoon trading with the NYSE Financial Index and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) each adding 1.3%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index increased 0.8%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) gained 1.1%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) slumped 5.1% to $59,949, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was little changed at 4.26%.

In economic news, the Dallas Fed's monthly manufacturing index rose to minus 15.1 in June from minus 19.4 in May, compared with expectations for minus 15 in a survey compiled by Bloomberg.

In corporate news, Riot Platforms ( RIOT ) requested a special meeting of Bitfarms ( BITF ) shareholders to reconstitute the Bitfarms ( BITF ) board. Riot, which is Bitfarms' ( BITF ) largest shareholder, also formally withdrew its proposal to acquire all Bitfarms ( BITF ) shares for $2.30 a share. Riot shares fell nearly 5% and Bitfarms ( BITF ) tumbled almost 10%.

KKR (KKR) is looking for about $20 billion from investors for its new North America private equity fund. KKR shares were shedding 0.7%.

General Motors Financial, the finance unit of General Motors ( GM ) , said Monday it has withdrawn its application for federal deposit insurance after a three-year process with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Utah Department of Financial Institutions. General Motors ( GM ) shares were rising 1.1%.
