Sector Update: Financial Stocks Rise Tuesday Afternoon

01:51 PM EST, 01/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were advancing in Tuesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index rising 1.1% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) adding 0.6%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was up 0.3%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was climbing 1.5%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) popped 4.2% to $106,407, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was dropping 3 basis points to 4.58%.

In regulatory news, President Donald Trump has designated Mark Uyeda as acting chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the agency said Tuesday.

In corporate news, Charles Schwab ( SCHW ) reported better-than-expected Q4 results on Tuesday amid growth in fees and trading revenue while predicting a top-line acceleration in 2025. Its shares jumped 4.6%.

Prologis' ( PLD ) core funds from operations surpassed market expectations for Q4, while the company guided for growth in the key metric during 2025. The shares popped 6.3%.

Goldman Sachs ( GS ) has released a program called GS AI assistant to about 10,000 employees and plans to roll out the generative AI assistant to all its knowledge workers in 2025, CNBC reported Tuesday, citing Goldman Sachs ( GS ) Chief Information Officer Marco Argenti. Goldman shares were up 0.1%.
