01:38 PM EDT, 10/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks were edging higher Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) each rising 0.2%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was adding 0.8%.

In corporate news, AbbVie ( ABBV ) shares rose 0.9% after the company said it agreed to buy Aliada Therapeutics and its Alzheimer's disease candidate for $1.4 billion in cash to boost its neuroscience portfolio.
