01:51 PM EDT, 07/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks fell Wednesday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) both shedding 0.8%.
The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was rising 1.2%.
In corporate news, health insurance stocks were falling after Centene ( CNC ) withdrew its full-year earnings outlook. Molina Healthcare (MOH) shares were falling over 20%, UnitedHealth ( UNH ) was down nearly 4%, Elevance Health ( ELV ) was down more than 9%, Humana (HUM) was down over 2% and CVS Health ( CVS ) was falling more than 2%. Centene's ( CNC ) shares sank over 39% after the company withdrew its full-year earnings outlook, citing lower-than-expected revenue from most states where it provides health insurance marketplace plans.
Surmodics ( SRDX ) said Wednesday that it discovered unauthorized access to its systems by a third party on June 5 and that some IT systems and data were unavailable due to the breach. Its shares were down 0.7%.
