Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Retreat Late Afternoon

04:05 PM EDT, 10/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks were decreasing late Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index down 0.3% and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) shedding 0.4%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 1.2%.

In corporate news, Trevena ( TRVN ) shares plunged 46%. The company said late Friday it received a delisting notice from Nasdaq, with trading of its shares to be suspended effective Tuesday.

Hims & Hers Health ( HIMS ) shares jumped past 10%. It will replace Vector Group (VGR) in the S&P SmallCap 600 Wednesday.

Liquidia ( LQDA ) shares surged over 11% after the US Supreme Court denied a request by United Therapeutics ( UTHR ) for a review of previous rulings over a patent infringement dispute between the two companies. United Therapeutics ( UTHR ) shares fell 1.7%.

Pfizer ( PFE ) may become the target of a shareholder campaign led by activist Starboard Value, which has taken a $1 billion stake in the company, according to media reports. Pfizer ( PFE ) shares popped 2.1%.
