Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Rise Tuesday Afternoon

02:17 PM EST, 11/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks rose Tuesday afternoon with the NYSE Health Care Index up 0.4% and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) adding 0.7%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) climbed 1.1%.

In corporate news, AstraZeneca's ( AZN ) shares tumbled 7.3% after China's Yicai news agency reported that several senior executives at the company's regional unit were implicated in an insurance fraud case.

Moderna ( MRNA ) Chief Executive Officer Stephane Bancel is stepping down as chief commercial officer and will remain CEO, Bloomberg reported. Moderna ( MRNA ) shares fell 1.4%.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals ( VRTX ) shares jumped 6%, a day after the company reported better-than-expected Q3 results.
