Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Slide Late Afternoon

03:51 PM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks declined late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index falling 1.3% and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) dropping 1.2%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.2%.

In corporate news, Medirom Healthcare Technologies ( MRM ) shares surged 33% after the company said Elematec, a Toyota Tsusho group member, agreed to invest in its unit Medirom Mother Labs.

Seelos Therapeutics ( SEEL ) said Tuesday that its common shares will no longer trade on Nasdaq due to a failure to comply with the stock exchange's minimum stockholder's equity requirement under listing rules. Seelos shares plunged 46%.

UnitedHealth ( UNH ) narrowed its full-year earnings outlook after a greater-than-expected disruption linked to a cyber attack earlier in the year. The shares tumbled 8%.

Walgreens Boots Alliance ( WBA ) shares jumped 15% after the company reported fiscal Q4 adjusted net earnings and sales that topped analyst estimates.
