Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced that virtual assets will now be taxed at 30 percent on all income made on them. Virtual digital assets, as they are called in the Budget speech, will most likely cover assets like non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrencies. Falling the second consecutive session, equity benchmark Sensex dropped over 140 points on Friday, tracking weakness in banking and energy stocks amid a mixed trend overseas. Investors also remained concerned over persistent foreign fund outflows. Paytm, SBI, Tata Steel, Godrej Properties were some of the key stocks that moved the most today.

GAIL stock is trading higher after delivering an all-round beat in the third quarter. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Manoj Jain, CMD of GAIL said the numbers in terms of volumes are going to be similar to Q3 numbers. They expect transmission volumes growth at around 10 percent and trading volumes, to be at 8 to 10 percent for the FY23.

At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened strong at 74.71 against the greenback and witnessed an intra-day high of 74.68 and a low of 74.77. It finally settled at 74.70, a rise of 18 paise over its previous close. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against the basket of six currencies, fell 0.09 percent to 95.29.
