The Philadelphia Semiconductor index slumped 3.2%.

In corporate news, Texas Instruments ( TXN ) shares dropped 6.8% after it reported fiscal Q3 net income late Tuesday of $1.48 per diluted share, up from $1.47 a year earlier but below the FactSet consensus of $1.49.
