The Philadelphia Semiconductor index climbed 3.1%.

In corporate news, Apple ( AAPL ) is planning upgrades to its satellite features for the iPhone and its smartwatches, Bloomberg reported. The company is eyeing bringing satellite connectivity to Apple Maps, which will allow users to navigate without cellular or Wi-Fi access, the report said. Apple ( AAPL ) shares rose 0.4%.
