The Philadelphia Semiconductor index rose 1.9%.
In corporate news, Meta (META) agreed to buy a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.8 billion and will place the data labeling startup's Chief Executive Officer Alexandr Wang in a top position at the company, The Information reported. Separately, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is putting together a team of experts to achieve artificial general intelligence, Bloomberg reported. Meta shares added 0.4%.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( HPE ) are forming a partnership with Germany's Leibniz Supercomputing Centre to build a new supercomputer using the Nvidia's ( NVDA ) next-generation chips, Reuters reported. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were little changed, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( HPE ) rose 0.7%.
Accenture ( ACN ) has trained 500,000 staffers to use generative artificial intelligence amid booming AI consulting work, Bloomberg reported, citing Accenture ( ACN ) CEO Julie Sweet. Accenture ( ACN ) shares rose 1.2%.
Apple's ( AAPL ) announcements at its annual developer conference were mainly related to software and are unlikely to drive iPhone demand, UBS said in a note emailed Tuesday. Apple ( AAPL ) shares were fractionally lower.
