Sector Update: Tech Stocks Fall in Afternoon Trading

01:55 PM EDT, 03/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were lower Friday afternoon, with the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) down 2% and the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) falling 2.3%.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor index lost 2.5%.

In corporate news, Super Micro Computer ( SMCI ) shares fell 29% after the company placed two employees on administrative leave and terminated a contractor after US prosecutors indicted all three for allegedly conspiring to violate export controls.

Alphabet-backed (GOOGL) Kalshi has raised over $1 billion at a $22 billion valuation in a new funding round, led by an investment from Coatue Management, media outlets reported Friday. Alphabet shares were down 2.3%.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) will sell 1 million graphics processing units to Amazon's ( AMZN ) AWS by 2027, an Nvidia ( NVDA ) executive told Reuters. Ian Buck, Nvidia's ( NVDA ) vice president of hyperscale and high-performance computing, said shipments will begin this year and continue through 2027. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were shedding 2.2%, and Amazon ( AMZN ) was down 1.3%.
