Sector Update: Tech Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

03:50 PM EST, 11/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were lower late Tuesday afternoon, with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) and the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) each shedding 1.4%.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor index dropped 2.2%.

In corporate news, Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ) have committed to invest billions of dollars into Amazon ( AMZN )-backed (AMZN) AI startup Anthropic, marking the latest mega collaboration among Big Tech companies. Nvidia ( NVDA ) will invest up to $10 billion in Anthropic, while Microsoft ( MSFT ) has committed to invest as much as $5 billion. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were down 2.2%, Microsoft ( MSFT ) fell 2.5%, and Amazon ( AMZN ) dropped 4%.

Meta Platforms ( META ) won an antitrust lawsuit Tuesday after US District Court Judge James Boasberg said the Federal Trade Commission failed to prove that Meta holds a monopoly in what the agency called a "personal social networking" market. Meta shares eased 0.2%.

Cloudflare ( NET ) said Tuesday it resolved an outage that caused disruptions to global internet services, including to the sites of social media platform X and ChatGPT, though some customers continued to face issues. Cloudflare ( NET ) shares were down 2.3%.
