01:40 PM EDT, 08/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were higher Friday afternoon, with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) rising 1.5% and the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) climbing 4.4%.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor index added 3%.
In corporate news, Zoom Communications ( ZM ) shares jumped past 10% after the video communication platform lifted its full-year outlook and reported a surprise increase in its Q2 earnings.
Apple ( AAPL ) is in early talks about using Alphabet's (GOOG) Google Gemini AI to power a retooled version of its Siri voice assistant, Bloomberg reported. Apple ( AAPL ) shares added 1.5% and Alphabet popped 3.6%.
Tesla (TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk tried to enlist Meta (META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg for an unsolicited bid his consortium made to buy Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI earlier this year, OpenAI said Thursday in a court filing. Tesla shares were rising 5.5% and Meta was up 1.9%.
