Apple ( AAPL ) shares rose 1.8% in early trading after it reported higher fiscal Q1 earnings and net sales late Thursday.

KLA (KLAC) shares were up 2.6% after it reported higher fiscal Q2 non-GAAP diluted earnings and revenue late Thursday.

Poet Technologies ( POET ) said it has signed a deal with a global capital markets firm to develop an optical engine for use in an automated high-frequency securities trading operation. The company's shares rose 10%.
