The Philadelphia Semiconductor index added 1.5%.
In corporate news, Evolv Technologies ( EVLV ) shares plunged 39% after the company delayed its Q3 earnings report and Form 10-Q filing because some past financial statements had inaccuracies on revenue recognition.
Apple ( AAPL ) tested a blood-sugar app on select employees earlier this year to further advance its health care offerings, Bloomberg reported. Separately, Apple ( AAPL ) is expected to report fiscal Q4 results modestly above market estimates next week with iPhone demand seen picking up after the launch of AI features in late October, BofA Securities said. Apple ( AAPL ) shares rose 0.4%.
Microsoft ( MSFT ) Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella's compensation in 2024 increased to $79.1 million, up by 63% from a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing. Microsoft ( MSFT ) shares rose 0.8%.
Alphabet's (GOOG) Waymo autonomous vehicle unit closed an oversubscribed $5.6 billion funding round. Alphabet shares added 1.5%.
